It Just Keeps Getting Better

Posted on: Friday 04/06/2018 12:35:06

To be brief, this morning our Corporate Director and HR Manager made a surprise visit from Tennessee. I was thanked for my 37 years of dedicated service. I was then told I could either immediately take an early retirement with a small severance package,  or immediately be fired. I was given paperwork and escorted to my car like a criminal. I wasn't allowed back to my desk to collect my belongings. I am numb and in shock. Like I was with the fire  only worse.

Oh shit, that sucks. Sorry man!

But.....maybe this could also be one of those “when God closes a door” moments. It could be the driving force needed to make a positive change. Regroup and list your assets and come up with a plan. /homepage

^ Very true. It sucks that they give you no warning, and escorted you out. But, let me assure you that is just policy in some places - bad ex-employees made them have to do that for everyone, even the good ones, because they can't take chances (this happens with government facilities everywhere). I know this was a huge shock and I am so, so sorry. Remember they they do NOT determine your worth. Much love, man.

This does suck! Get working on the plan how many years to retirement how's your 401 what else would you like to do?

It's Nissan isn't it? They have a plant here, and I've heard if you can get on there, and follow all their nitpicky rules to the letter, it's not a bad gig, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they actually like working there. Management seems draconian. /homepage

Sorry mate. I hope you’ll be able to sort out something to get you back on your feet. I don’t know if early retirement is an option for you – both my brother and my brother-in-law did so in recent years and are content, but this obviously depends on your finances.

Sorry to hear it - that sucks

Thank you all for the kind words. It helps. I believe this to be a classic case of the somewhat new, barely legal corporate practice of "Managing Down". Wiki it. I have a To-Do list prioritized now for the week. There are five or six major things I have to jump on right away. I am unemotionally formulating some plans from best options. I'm not in shock now. I'm feeling a bit numb, and anger towards those fuckwits is quickly creeping in. It appears I will be moving back to Ohio, to family, and where everything is much cheaper. Besides that, I am seeing some other good things, like the end of oppressive alimony (Chris Christie got one thing right). Also, Susan and Matt beware- It would put me within driving distance. I'll keep you all posted./homepage

Man, I'm sorry. Sounds like you have a plan, though! Good luck!
